Steve Carrell

Boisterous, loud and obnoxious, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) is the overbearing regional manager of Dunder Mifflin Inc. Believing his own office rhetoric, Michael constantly offers the corporate point of view while simultaneously sabotaging his own credibility amongst his staff with his boorish behavior. Given his staff’s less-than-delicate tolerance of his antics, Michael ironically believes that those who report to him respect his authority, think him funny and consider him a close friend. Each day, his attempts to become known as the office comedian are met with veiled disdain, disgust and charitable dismissal. Unfortunately, Michael’s ego blinds him to his obvious shortfalls.

Born on August 16th, 1962 in Acton, Massachusetts, Carell graduated from Middlesex School in 1980 after playing ice hockey with the varsity team. He went on to play lacrosse in college at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Originally planning for a career in radio broadcasting, Carell began acting with Chicago’s Second City troupe and made his film debut in 1991 in the movie Curly Sue. Bit by the acting bug, Carell soon turned his back on a career in radio to pursue stage and film work.

Before becoming famous, Carell spent the years between 1990 and 1996 teaching improvisational comedy while continuing to perform with The Second City troupe. Waiting for his turn in front of the camera, Carell spent time during the 1990’s writing for The Dana Carvey Show. Though Carell is widely-known as Michael in the hit TV show, The Office, his acting career has included impressive turns in a few high-profile films. In 2003, he had audiences laughing as Evan Baxter in Bruce Almighty. He stunned viewers in 2005 by co-writing and starring in the breakout hit The 40 Year Old Virgin and then followed that success in 2006 by co-starring with Greg Kinnear in Little Miss Sunshine.

Carell started his television career in 1996 by playing various actors on The Dana Carvey Show. In 1999, he became a correspondent on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, a stint that lasted until 2004. During the years since 1996, Carell has also made repeated appearances on Saturday Night Live. Today, he focuses most of his television career on The Office. During his career, Carell has received 1 Golden Globe, 2 Writers Guild of America awards as well as additional awards from The Television Critics Association, Screen Actors Guild, MTV and Teen Choice Awards for his portrayal of The Office’s Michael Scott. His role in The Office has also attracked 2 Golden Globe and 2 Emmy nominations along with several nominations from the Writers Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild and MTV.

Steve Carell’s past career promises to continue delighting audiences everywhere for years to come. With impressive turns in comedy and drama, Carell has shown he is capable of performing well in multiple genres, as both an actor and writer. As The Office continues to enjoy high ratings, Carell will likely be courted for major film and television roles. Fans and audiences wait eagerly to watch Carell in any role he chooses.
